Amir left medical school at the end of the 5th year of his studies to seek answers to life's questions. Yes, really.

He then spent 2 years in a Zen monastery in Japan and over 20 years in a spiritual community in the USA. Since moving back to Israel in 2009 he co-founded the Israeli Education Spirit Movement; co-published two books connecting education and philosophical-spiritual inquiry; and recently published Spiritual Transmission: Paradoxes and Dilemmas on the Spiritual Path. He’s currently writing a PhD dissertation on Living Transcendence: Phenomenological Study of Spiritual Exemplars.

In this episode we discuss:

  • Amir's existential crisis and why he left medical school for an unknown path of spiritual seeking

  • The challenge of living in "two worlds", (i.e. the unknowable mystery of existence and our lives here)

  • The beauty and challenges of the guru-disciple relationship

  • When spiritual teachers behave "badly"

  • The importance of staying open to life's big questions, even when there's paradox and contradiction, and what happens when we stick with it

  • Revelation vs. enlightenment

  • Living transcendence and how it relates to peak and plateau states

Grab a big cuppa, get cozy, and settle in for this wonderful conversation.
